Broken Spanish LA

Posted on July 14, 2015 by Heather Morton

Broken Spanish, Downtown LA, is now open!

I'm a solid 2+ hours away and it's still tempting to hop in the car and get dinner and a margarita right now. The menu just looks that good. I was commissioned to create a group of 26 hanging pendant lamps for the space, and am so pleased with how they look in this beautiful space.

The new Downtown LA hotspot brought to us by Jacob Shure, Bill Chait, and chef super talent, Ray Garcia. The inspired interior was dreamed up by the amazing LA design team Bells + Whistles. I was truly over the moon to work with such a talented group of people, it was the dream job. Thanks to the Broken Spanish and Bells and Whistles teams for looping me in.

One reviewer lovingly referred to the space as "abuela chic", and I can see why. You just want to curl up here and have what you KNOW will be a cozy time full of amazing food and drink.

Each pendant was thrown on the wheel, no two being the same. The clay bodies varied in tone, size, shape, and texture, but carried a thread of commonality between them to bring the group together.

Renegade // Summer 2015

Posted on July 14, 2015 by Heather Morton

Renegade Summer 2015 was so much fun!

Until this point I have focused Black Phoebe solely on commissioned custom work for individuals and interior designers. But the urge to share pieces with the public finally prompted me to develop an online shop (almost finished, watch out for it in the next few weeks!). And what better way to introduce a new line of items than the Renegade LA? And I'm so very glad I did! The weeks leading up to the show were a blur of clay splatters, glaze drips, and clinking brass. But it came together beautifully, and the show was a success in so many ways. I sold work to some new friends and met many delightful makers. I slept for 20 hours yesterday, but today... it's back to business!

Also, I was so pleased to find myself the topic of a LA Renegade Maker Spotlight this past week, in preparation for the show. Follow the link to check it out! Thanks to the Renegade crew for such kind words.

Here are a few images from our booth.
